They go like so:
U don't know English?!
Are they asking or telling u the fact? (23:)
Weirdos of todays generation.
So if someone does not know this 'hoity-toity' language, is it a crime?
Or are you regarded as uneducated if you don't know English?
Well, it seems like, or rather is it the notion stupid people around the world have. (11:)
Seriously they think you are like daft if you can't get a convo going in English, like the hell with them!
That doesn't make you less of a person!
I mean if someone cannot speak English he / she does know their own language and definitely is literate, of course they are!
English has become a world wide spoken language well this attitude towards those who didn't learn it or simply didn't want to give it shot, shouldn't be looked down upon.
As an English speaking person, who isn't English at all, feel like my ancestors gave up their own language for English. :(
The reason being they wanted their kids, grandkids and great grandkids to know the English language fluently, but ultimately our real language got side tracked.
My parents can simply speak it, but can't read or write it all!
So imagine me?
I am not even able to string a sentence or two without making a blunder.
So all you IOPALIANS please, please don't give English priority over Arabic, which I know you guys don't, well in time to come what if your great gradkids end up like me?
Sad state of affairs, right?
Alhamdulillah it is not as beautiful as Arabic, it's far from being beautiful! lol
Anyway getting to the main point again, English speaking people shouldn't think too much of themselves!
For God's sake, everyone has their own language!
Cheerio Folks,

Maybe it's because of internet? As the world web expanded, the language became international and more popular day after day?? hmmm..
Well, I give English priority over Arabic.. But, it doesn't mean Arabic is not important to me.. It's unique in its own way... But, there's something about English that I love.. I can't put my fingers on it.. But it's there..! ^_^ English is awesome (I can't imagine life without English!)

Your words you made for addressing Writing 1 course students are still penetrating my ears. While you were standing to the left corner of the class beside the board, you said, "When you speak English, you feel you are distinguished. when you know English while other do not, you feel distinguished, too."-- I liked and still like what you said.
However, when there is someone speaks French or any other language, he for sure is distinguished among those who do not. Yet, still the difference is very big: The difference is that English is the most spreaded language all over the world, unlike other languages; i.e. when you move abroad to any country, English will be available, but not French or so, since they are limited to its region or to some extent spoken by a number of people that is less than the number of English's-- that is the fact.

nice point, Jehan.
Even, if you catch a pocket of biscuit or so, you will find that the languages used to tell about the product are the original language (I mean where the product got made in) plus ENGLISH...
For examples, when you have a chineese product, you will see chineese and English. Similarly, when you have an Egyptian pocket of chipcy, you will find Arabic and English written on it...
and so on...

please, please don't give English priority over Arabic,
i cannot give my original language less priority than the language i still learn.
how can i abnegate my language?
lemme declassify that i love both languages. i cannot avoid learning the twos.
but if we really give the english lang more priority that doesn't mean we hate it, hanan. nope, at all. as for me, i know that many foreigners eager to learn Arabic language. they wish to utilize just tiny words to speak.
i adore speaking english lag and wish to master speaking it as i speak arabic.
to take into account, English becomes an offshoot of my daily life.

Thanks, yes if you know English you wouldn't have a problem any where in the world as it's spoken widely.
So, who do u feel distinguished amongst?
Your family? I come to find majority of the Gazans do know English even if it's not as good as those who are learning it, right?
Little kids too... that's amazing!

Firstly thanks for your input as you brought this word to my attention: abnegate. (6:)
Cool yeah I didn't mean you hate Arabic, it's just that what if the future generation lose their mother tongue for English.
I love Arabic because the Holy Quran was revealed in Arabic and not any other language, so it is the best!
My desire to know this langauge will never seize to exit.
There is no language as beautiful as Arabic or better. (6:)

I do love english. Sometimes, I could express myself more explicitly using English, and sometimes I give it more priority because it's my field of study, but that doesn't mean that I would forget about my own languguage. I don't enjoy English poetry as much as I enjoy Arabic one, for example.

Wow sis, is it?
Good to know, yeah once someone was telling my Dad that certain expressions of the Arabic language cannot be translated fully, you have to know the language to appreciate that.
Thanks Sam.

it's just that what if the future generation lose their mother tongue for English.
that's what really happened with twos of my relatives. they both lived in america for so long times. however, when they come back again to Gaza, they forgot totally what's arabic language. they tried to spell arabic words as if they were both none-arab ppl.
so this to somehow could be execrable to who is arab and forgets his/her own language, and means he giver over precedency than his owns.
thanks a bunch, really. i really liked this topic much.

We were honored ,by god, 2 speak Arabic as a mother language (8:)
At the same time, we can't deny that English should be learned by everyone since it became the language of communication all over the world ...
