ok okok

i have a hell of a suggestion:

there is a sticky thread "let's learn new words and vocabulary", let's see what new words we learn and post them there. i will post a couple of new ones in a moment:)

It is so true that you cannot learn a word in issolation and you have to learn word associations and usage and pronunciation. I tried to learn Vocabulary when reading but that was tough. because if my goal when reading is to learn new Vocabulary, I would not understand the context and I would re read it again.

Well I think that my mother Language is still hunting me in this one because I used to read arabic text and understand everything I read. and if I did not there will always be redandancy to give me the meaning later. and when I read in English I focus on understanding the whole text rathe than individual words, so I miss alot of new vocabulary.

the other thing is that there are some big words and very elequant words that are hard to use in everyday language when I am teaching or chatting with friends. How can I practice them? I tried writing and it worked to some extent. However I had to keep a record sheet infront of me to look at while writing.

A third delima is that most of the time when I am at work I get scared to use those words because I do not have a dictionary around. I get scared of misspelling it or use it in the wrong context.

this is so true particularly when you teach beginners. I have lost a lot because of them!!!:(
